Two nights ago, I saw two cats in my dream
One was mine, Sméagol,
the other, a mirror of her in every way
Both stood on my chest as I woke, calling to be fed
I dished half a can of food onto a plate as I always do
Then looked to the cat who had somehow become two
I dished out the other half as well, onto another plate
I went to the couch to lay down
watched a video of a woman seducing a private trainer
it wasn’t that great, but it woke me
and I let myself go there
when I went back to the cats, they were licking the last pieces off the same plate
then looked up to me and meowed in unison
Strange, I thought, two only ate as much as one.
Pakistan and India are at it again
Waving fists and posing for a fight
I don’t think the fights ever stop
I pray a silent prayer that this could be one of the rare few that dies away
They always build, fuel and fire til they reach a bursting point
My old fishtank is in the hallway, looking for a new home
I remember Blueberry, and how I let him die.

A sound to kill the thinking, to let the brain just be.
